At one time empiricism lay at one
end of the dualistic reality spectrum and mysticism lay at the
other. But not anymore. Empiricists and mystics are drawing
closer, at times almost seeming to speak a common language. You
could say empirical findings have begun to catch up with
mystical assertions. But a more appreciative view is that
scientists are now substantiating what mystics have always been
saying.
To ask what is consciousness is
to ask what is the fundamental truth of our reality and if there
is one thing that scientists and mystics agree on implicitly -
it is that all of reality is made of energy and energy cannot be
destroyed, it can only be formed into one thing or another, or
from one thing to another. Knowing this and knowing that that an
observer precedes all form (observer
effect) we are left with the stunning conclusion that
consciousness has created everything we experience and call
reality.
Realising this we must then ask:
how? If consciousness forms reality how does it do it? Its an
obvious and critical question because in answering we answer the
most pressing questions of what it means to be alive and human
and how to be alive in a way that gains access to the true
potential of our individuated consciousness? A potential that we
all intuitively know exists.
